Hemi Macgregor

Before undertaking his role as Lecturer with the School of Visual and Material Culture at Massey University’s College of Creative Arts, Hemi spent three years teaching on an arts degree program at Northland Polytechnic, Whangarei. Prior to this he was engaged in completing his Masters in Maori Visual Arts from Te Putahi a Toi (The Maori Studies Department) at Massey University.

Hemi Macgregor shows Te Kete Tuari at the Wellington LUX exhibition. One of a three-part series of works, a contemporary exploration of Nga Kete-o-te-Wananga, the three kete (baskets) of knowledge gifted to mankind by Maori god Tane. The work here refers to world of Te Tuauri “beyond the darkness”. McGregor drew on concepts outlined in the writings of Reverend Maori Marsden when developing this body of work.
